Yellow Balau Decking
Premium yellow balau decking boards for residential and commercial projects
Overview
Yellow Balau decking is a premium Southeast Asian hardwood that delivers outstanding durability and a beautiful golden-yellow to light brown color. With a Janka hardness of 2,900 lbf and natural resistance to rot, decay, and insects, Yellow Balau performs at a level comparable to Ipe at a more accessible price point. Its lighter color provides a warm, inviting aesthetic that sets it apart from darker exotic hardwoods, making it ideal for residential decks, pool surrounds, and outdoor living areas.

Installation Tips
Pre-drill all screw holes — Yellow Balau is very hard and will snap standard screws.
Use stainless steel or approved hardwood fasteners.
Allow 1/8" spacing between boards for expansion and drainage.
Acclimate boards on-site for 5-7 days before installation.
Apply end-sealer to all cut ends to prevent checking.
Use carbide-tipped saw blades for clean, efficient cuts.
Maintenance
Apply a UV-protective hardwood oil annually to maintain the golden color. If left untreated, Yellow Balau will weather to an attractive silver-gray over time. Clean annually with mild soap and water. Yellow Balau is extremely durable and requires minimal structural maintenance over its 20+ year lifespan.
