Overview
Sapele flooring offers the rich, reddish-brown beauty of Mahogany at a more accessible price point. Its signature ribbon-stripe grain — created by interlocking fibers — produces a shimmering, three-dimensional visual effect that no other species can match. At 1,410 lbf Janka (slightly harder than White Oak), Sapele provides excellent durability for residential floors. The color deepens from a golden-brown to a rich dark reddish-brown over time, creating increasingly dramatic interiors as the floor ages.

Installation Tips
Acclimate for 7 days before installation.
Nail-down or glue-down per standard hardwood methods.
Maintain 3/8" expansion gap at walls.
Sand with the grain carefully — interlocking grain can cause tear-out.
Use progressively finer sandpaper grits for a smooth finish.
Test stains on scrap — Sapele's natural color is beautiful with a clear finish.
Maintenance
Sweep or vacuum regularly. Clean with a hardwood floor cleaner. Sapele's hardness is comparable to Oak, so standard hardwood floor care applies. The color will darken over time — manage UV exposure for even development. Refinish every 7-10 years. The ribbon-stripe grain makes Sapele floors look stunning with a quality clear finish.
