Overview

Jatoba, commonly known as "Brazilian Cherry," is one of the most popular exotic hardwood flooring choices in America. At 2,350 lbf Janka, it's 73% harder than White Oak, making it exceptionally resistant to dents, scratches, and wear. Jatoba's rich salmon-red to deep reddish-orange color darkens significantly over time to a beautiful deep red-brown — a natural process that Cherry and Jatoba lovers find irresistible. For high-traffic residential and commercial floors that need to look stunning for decades, Jatoba delivers unmatched value.

Installation Tips

1

Acclimate for 7-10 days — exotics need longer acclimation.

2

Pre-drill at board ends to prevent splitting.

3

Use a heavy-duty floor nailer with proper PSI for dense hardwoods.

4

Maintain 3/8" expansion gap at walls.

5

Expect dramatic color change in first 3-6 months — plan accordingly.

6

Use carbide-tipped blades for cutting.

Maintenance

Sweep or vacuum regularly. Jatoba's exceptional hardness means it resists wear from heavy traffic. Clean with a hardwood floor cleaner. The color will darken significantly in the first year — use UV-blocking window treatments for even color development. Avoid area rugs for the first 6 months to prevent uneven tanning. Refinish every 10-15 years.
