Overview

Hickory is the hardest and toughest domestic hardwood flooring at 1,820 lbf Janka — 34% harder than White Oak. Its dramatic color variation from creamy white sapwood to deep brown heartwood, combined with bold, flowing grain patterns, creates a floor with unmistakable rustic character. Hickory is the top choice for families with kids, pets, and heavy foot traffic — it shrugs off dents, scratches, and daily abuse that would mark softer floors. If you want a floor that performs as hard as it looks, Hickory is unbeatable.

Installation Tips

1

Acclimate for 5-7 days before installation.

2

Hickory is very hard — use heavy-duty nailers with proper PSI.

3

Pre-drill at board ends to prevent splitting.

4

Maintain 3/8" expansion gap at walls.

5

Mix boards from multiple boxes to blend color variation.

6

Sharp blades are essential — Hickory dulls cutting tools quickly.

Maintenance

Sweep or vacuum regularly. Hickory's extreme hardness means it resists scratching and denting better than any other domestic species. Clean with a hardwood floor cleaner. The natural color variation helps hide wear and dirt between cleanings. Refinish every 10-15 years — Hickory's hardness means it wears slowly.
