Installation Tips

• Acclimate Wood: Let flooring sit in the room for 3-5 days before installation

• Stagger Joints: Offset end joints by at least 6" between adjacent rows

• Expansion Gap: Leave 1/2" gap around perimeter for seasonal expansion

• Pattern Direction: Install parallel to longest wall for best appearance

• Moisture Test: Check subfloor moisture before installation (should be under 12%)

How to Estimate Flooring Materials

Start with the room's length and width to get the square footage, then add waste based on your installation pattern. Straight-lay is the most material-efficient; herringbone and chevron patterns require 20-25% more material due to the angled cuts at walls and transitions.

Installation Tips for Hardwood Flooring

  • Acclimate the wood — leave flooring in the room 3-5 days before installation so it adjusts to local humidity
  • Check subfloor moisture — moisture should be under 12% (use a pin or pinless moisture meter)
  • Stagger joints — offset end joints by at least 6" between adjacent rows for stability and appearance
  • Leave expansion gaps — 1/2" around the perimeter allows seasonal wood movement
  • Install parallel to the longest wall for the most visually appealing result
