Installation Tips

1

Always pre-drill and countersink — Ipe is extremely hard and will split without pre-drilling.

2

Use stainless steel screws or hidden clip systems rated for hardwood.

3

Install over a rainscreen furring strip system for proper ventilation and drainage.

4

Allow 1/16" to 1/8" gap between boards for expansion depending on profile.

5

Apply end-sealer to all cut ends immediately to prevent checking.

6

Acclimate boards on-site for 5-7 days before installation.

Maintenance

Ipe siding requires virtually no maintenance. It can be left untreated to weather to a uniform silver-gray patina, which many architects and homeowners prefer. To maintain the original brown color, apply a UV-protective hardwood oil once per year. Clean with mild soap and water as needed. No painting, staining, or sealing required for structural protection.
