Special grade optimized for vertical load-bearing wall studs
Standard: WWPA, SPIB, NLGARelative price: Mid-RangeRank: 3
What this grade means
Stud grade is a special-purpose grade designed specifically for vertical load-bearing applications in wall framing. It has strength properties similar to #2 grade but with restrictions on warp and bow that make it ideal for straight, uniform wall construction.
Defects allowed
Similar to #2 but with tighter warp, bow, and crook tolerances for straight studs
Typical uses
Wall studs, vertical load-bearing members, partition walls
Grade rules vary by species, region and grading agency. For structural work, use the grade stamp and governing code or an engineer’s specification—not appearance alone.
