Standard: WWPA, species-specificRelative price: Mid-RangeRank: 2
What this grade means
Standard & Better is the most commonly available decking grade. It allows some natural character marks including sound knots and minor defects while maintaining a good overall appearance. This grade provides the best balance of quality and value for most residential decks.
Defects allowed
Sound knots to specified size, minor wane, small checks, moderate grain variation
Typical uses
Residential decks, porch floors, dock decking, outdoor stairs
Grade rules vary by species, region and grading agency. For structural work, use the grade stamp and governing code or an engineer’s specification—not appearance alone.
