What this grade means

D Select allows a few minor imperfections that would not be permitted in C & Better. It provides an excellent finish-quality product at a more accessible price point. Small tight knots and minor blemishes are permitted.

Defects allowed

Small tight knots, minor pitch pockets, slight staining permitted

Typical uses

Interior trim, molding, shelving, finish carpentry where slight character is acceptable

Grade rules vary by species, region and grading agency. For structural work, use the grade stamp and governing code or an engineer’s specification—not appearance alone.
