What this grade means
C & Better (also called C Select or Clear) is the highest appearance grade for softwood boards. It combines C Select and better grades, producing boards that are virtually clear of defects on at least one face. Used for premium trim work, furniture, and any application where appearance is paramount.
Defects allowed
Virtually no defects on the face side. Minor imperfections on the back allowed
Typical uses
Premium trim, finish carpentry, shelving, furniture, visible structural members, paneling
Grade rules vary by species, region and grading agency. For structural work, use the grade stamp and governing code or an engineer’s specification—not appearance alone.
