Step 1: Acclimation & Storage

Stack Ipe siding boards with spacers for 3-7 days on-site. Keep covered but ventilated.

Step 2: Wall Preparation

Install weather-resistant barrier (WRB) with 6" overlaps. Flash all windows, doors, and penetrations. Install drip edges and starter strips. Consider a rainscreen air gap for premium performance.

Step 3: Board Layout & Starter Course

Establish a level baseline. Calculate course spacing and exposure. Snap chalk lines for each course. Install first course starting at bottom with minimum 6-8" clearance above grade.

Step 4: Fastening

Use stainless steel nails or screws for maximum corrosion resistance. Ring-shank nails provide excellent hold. Pre-drill near board ends to prevent splitting. Never nail through overlapping sections.

Step 5: Cutting & End-Sealing

Cut with a sharp carbide blade. Seal all cut ends and back-prime boards before installation for best results. Apply end-grain sealer to exposed end grain.

Step 6: Finishing

Ipe siding can be painted, stained, or left to weather naturally depending on the desired look. High-quality exterior coatings will last longer on properly prepared wood.

Step 7: Ongoing Maintenance

Inspect annually for damage. Clean 1-2 times per year. Maintain caulk and flashing. Refinish or repaint according to your chosen coating system's schedule.
